Getting started

How to start a crowdfunding website.

The technology is the easy part. What decides whether a crowdfunding site works is how money moves, who is accountable for the campaigns on it, and what you charge. Here is the honest version, and the fastest way to get one live without building it yourself.

01

Decide how money will move first

The single biggest decision is whether funds touch your own bank account. Routing payments directly to creators through Stripe Connect, with your fee split out in transit, avoids holding other people's money — which carries obligations most new platforms are not ready for.

02

Pick your funding model

All-or-nothing builds urgency and protects backers, but campaigns that miss the goal raise nothing. Flexible funding suits causes and personal fundraising. Supporting both means you do not have to choose for every campaign.

03

Plan for moderation on day one

A public submission form will attract low-effort and fraudulent campaigns. You need an approval queue, the ability to suspend a live campaign, and a way to ban a user, before you launch rather than after.

04

Build it, rent it, or have it launched for you

Custom development is the most expensive and slowest path. Hosted SaaS is quick but takes a percentage forever and owns your data. Having a ready-made platform launched for you gives you your own site, your own brand and your own fees without writing code or managing servers: we install it, brand it and connect payments, and can host it for you too.

05

What you need to get started

A domain, a logo, and a Stripe account that supports Connect in your country. If we are launching it for you, that is genuinely the whole list; we handle the hosting, installation and configuration.

06

A realistic timeline

Doing it all yourself means weeks of setup, configuration and testing before the first campaign can go live. With a done-for-you launch, your platform is live in 10 business days.*

*The 10 business day clock starts once we have your domain, hosting access and logo, and pauses while we wait on details from you or on Stripe’s review.
